Colin Henry (Dobro), coming from North Antrim was brought up on the late night music sessions in his family hotel. Not the familiar trad or bluegrass sessions, however, but around the piano playing and singing swing, jazz, show tunes and the occasional Irish ballad. His first performance at the age of 15 was playing ‘ Down by the Riverside’ on tenor banjo at a Saturday night dinner dance in the hotel. Coming to the ‘Dobro’, almost by accident when he raised the strings on an old guitar, he realised that this was the instrument he could relate to at all levels. On this instrument he was able to combine the rolls and licks of the guitar or  banjo with the sweet  tones needed to back a singer on a slow song.  Since taking up the instrument Colin has concentrated on the resonator guitar almost exclusively and has become one of Ireland’s foremost players in all genres of music. He has made numerous radio and tv appearances and has recorded and performed with many artists both local and international sharing a stage with such diverse performers as Nanci Griffith, Gerry O’Connor and Dublin guitar legend Dick Farrelly.  2018 will be his sixth tour with Gary Ferguson.

James Henry (Banjo), It should come as no surprise that James Henry is playing and performing music. Growing up in a very musical family in Ireland, with his parents and grandparents all playing music, James has recently caught the music bug and is now playing the 5 string banjo. New to the music scene and having only played banjo for a year and a half he is already a seasoned picker and performer having played on stage with the likes of Niall Toner. Taking inspiration from more modern virtuoso banjo players such as Noam Pikelny and Bela Fleck, and being taught by banjo legend Tony Trischka, James can deliver the more modern melodic and single string sounds of the banjo but still give the classic Scruggs drive.  2018 is not the first time he has been on tour with Gary Ferguson and his father but this time he will be performing and not sitting in the wings!
